Through The 8 Percent, my team and I were commissioned to create a documentary-style video for the Plate Up Project, a social enterprise program designed to help women facing homelessness gain skills and employment in the hospitality industry. This initiative was spearheaded by a local Melbourne charity, providing participants with hands-on training, mentorship, and career opportunities in Melbourne’s thriving food scene.

Objectives
  • To create a short documentary around women’s relationship with food, as a piece of branded content to support the charity launch.
  • To create a compelling visual narrative that would inspire community engagement and corporate support.
Execution

Documentary Approach: We captured the stories of several women, discussing their experiences and relationships with food.

Interviews & Storytelling: Our team conducted in-depth interviews, creating an emotionally resonant and authentic narrative.

Cinematic Production: Using high-quality cinematography and thoughtful editing, including shooting on location in regional Victoria, we crafted a visually compelling video.

Outcomes
  • High Engagement & Awareness: The video significantly boosted awareness of the Plate Up Project, attracting attention from local businesses, media, and policymakers at the launch.
  • Support & Funding: Increased visibility led to greater community and corporate support, further expanding the project’s reach.

Conclusion

The Plate Up Project was a powerful example of storytelling for social impact. This project reinforced my passion for creating meaningful content that informs, engages, and inspires action.
